Dorset Careers Hub Highlights the Power of Modern Work Experience During Visit from HRH The Prince of Wales

Dorset Careers Hub recently took part in the BCP Homewards partnership’s Youth Homelessness Board during a visit from HRH The Prince of Wales. The event provided a powerful platform to showcase the transformative prevention work taking place across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

A key theme of the discussion was the clear link between being not in education, employment or training (NEET) and the heightened risk of youth homelessness. By engaging young people early and creating clear pathways into industry, partners across the region are helping to build meaningful careers while offering an essential layer of stability and support.

During the visit, our Hub Lead, Helen Stevenson, had the opportunity to speak with His Royal Highness about the importance and impact of modern work experience. Helen emphasised:

  • The value of early exposure to the world of work in igniting aspiration.
  • The need to tailor opportunities for specific groups who face the greatest barriers.
  • The role of real-world experience in giving young people the direction and confidence they need to move forward.

We are grateful to the Homewards partnership - alongside The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales, BCP Council, and Bournemouth and Poole College, for including Dorset Careers Hub in this vital conversation.

Businesses across the region also have a crucial role to play. Could your organisation offer a site visit, guest talk, or work experience placement? By opening your doors to young people from priority cohorts, you are not only helping shape future talent but also providing the security and opportunity they need to build a brighter future.
